White House mediators meet with railroad unions then carriers as Emergency negotiations continue. Johnson aims for progress reports by next Wednesday with a possible deal before the April 25 no strike deadline and amid threats of government action if talks fail.
Mrs. Fred L. Stewart, 99, died this morning April 11 1964 at Halcyon House after five years of illness. Funeral Monday at 10 30 a m at Jones Funeral Home with burial Elm Grove Cemetery. Memorials to Missionary Program of Marion Avenue United Presbyterian Church. Born Sept 7 daughter of Izaiah P Faris and Frances Jane Brown Faris. Survived by four children including George C Stewart and William Stewart. three grandchildren nine great grandchildren and one nephew Harold Faris.
Members of the Retail Merchants Bureau of the Washington Chamber of Commerce will hold a meeting Tuesday at 9 15 a m in the Iowa Southern Utilities Co basement room All members are urged to attend.

Lee Roy Brown a 29 year old former Baptist minister and bank bookkeeper is charged with embezzling 15000 from Fairfield National Bank. FBI probes indicate a nearly one million dollar shortfall over ten years. Brown waived preliminary hearing and posted a 10 000 bond. He is held amid questions of wider complicity as investigators assess ingenious manipulations at the bank. Brown’s father posted bond and Brown was hospitalized for a stomach disorder before arraignment.
The APCO service station on East Wington Street was robbed Friday at 10:30 p.m. Attendant Richard Snyder was closing up when a thief, who hid a windshield wiper display, ordered him into the stock room and warned of being shot if he left. The robber escaped with $143.20. police report no leads.
Senator Jack Miller of Iowa warned that threats of violence over the pending civil rights bill could do more harm than good. He told the Senate the danger is fed by constant warnings of trouble if Congress fails to pass the measure and urged deliberate, careful, and objective action with possible reasonable changes.
Final report in Mt. Pleasant court details Harriet Wenger Crafton estate. State University of Iowa to receive assets totaling over 9000. Crafton, daughter of Daniel and Eva Wenger, lived in Henry County, grad of Washington High School class of 1910 and Iowa State University 1914. Brother Vere D. Wenger resides at Harlan Hotel Mt. Pleasant.
Jerry Kline of rural route one Pleasant Plain was admitted to Washington County Hospital after a Saturday morning auto accident northeast of Brighton. He is in good condition with bruises and lacerations and his car was demolished.
Mrs Anna E Coppock Godwin, 97, of 315 North Avenue B died here Friday April 10 1964 after a month of serious illness. Funeral Tuesday at 1 30 p m in the Christian Church with Rev Carlyle Smith in charge Burial in Elm Grove Cemetery. Survivors include four sons Homer Archie and Harold Godwin of Washington Charles of Canton Ohio one daughter Mrs Emmett Hayes a brother Harry Coppock of Bradenton Florida a sister Mrs Stella Farris of Morgan Hill California plus 12 grandchildren 36 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Anna Farmer Taylor 86 are tentatively set for 2 p.m. Monday at Zehr Funeral Home Wayland. She died Thursday night in Holstein Ia. Rev. Harold Nichols will conduct. Born April 8 1878 in Henry County she was the daughter of Benjamin and Frances Mosier Farmers. She married John Taylor who died in 1935. Survivors include two daughters Ruth of Cushing and Mrs William Baker of Mt Pleasant Ia, 11 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son A Taylor and a daughter Blanche Koebel.
Crawfordsville Fire Department responded about 4 30 p m to a grass fire on lots south of Sam Canott s Shop and west of the Methodist Church. A trash fire on the Canott lot sparked the blaze. Firemen gained control quickly with little damage aside from clothing on lines as old tires created heavy smoke.
All 18 U S military attaches stay in Moscow in a voluntary travel ban to protest Soviet travel restrictions. The move follows no travel warnings after incidents involving U S air attaches Lt Col Edgar Smith and Capt Edmund Zvetina from Dayton Ohio and naval attaches Lt Cmdr Stuart Savage Alma Kansas and Lt Leonard Bracken Philadelphia. British Air Commodore A N Davis reportedly defied angry Russians in Tula on March 17.
