Fire damages Harold McConnell farm home near Richland
Richland firemen battled a stubborn blaze at the Harold McConnell farm home for about an hour and a half Sunday night. The fire was discovered about 8 o clock by Mr. McConnell who lives alone in a story and a half frame house a mile and a half northeast of Richland. The upper part of the house was gutted and the downstairs damaged by smoke and water before the fire was controlled. A defective flue was blamed. Twenty years ago last month McConnell's home five miles north of Richland burned to the ground.

Cedar Rapids man Cyrill Schillig dies at home
Cyrill Schillig of Cedar Rapids and former Washington resident died suddenly of a heart attack Saturday afternoon at his home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 am at St. Patrick Church. He is survived by four Cedar Rapids children, two sisters in Washington, and brothers in Richmond Iowa City and Davenport. Mrs Stella Kern, another sister, died here a month ago.

Washington Man Killed in Nebraska Crash
Rex Crandall 55 formerly near Washington died from injuries after a car truck collision seven miles south of Syracuse Nebraska. Rex W Stewart 69 of Van Meter also died. Mrs Crandall and Mrs Stewart injured with broken ribs and a broken collarbone. The Iowa occupants were en route home from a Kansas wedding. Ray Gifford driver of the truck was uninjured. Funeral plans for Crandall are pending.
