Seventy six percent of Washington Junior High School students voted on Thursday to elect new student officers. The Progressive Party won with Terry Miller as vice president, Sue Lowe as secretary, and Lynn Stephens as treasurer. Denise Richart, Mike Rosenkild, and Jim Rosenkild ran on the People’s Choice ticket, while Robert Miller, the current vice president, automatically advances to president next year.

Retired Justice Sherman Minton Dies in Indiana
Former U.S. Supreme Court justice Sherman Minton died in his sleep at a New Albany hospital at age 74 after a weeklong hospitalization for an intestinal bleeding. Appointed by President Truman in 1949, he served eight years on the Seventh Circuit before joining the high court and retired in 1956 due to ill health.
