A band of gunmen halted more than twenty motor caravans on the Cuernavaca highway near Tres Marias, demanding contributions in Viva Cristo Rey. Victims included Americans and possibly a Mexican federal troop convoy. officials feared several prominent foreigners were among those seized.

Mrs. Elmer Finley of Clarinda Iowa sister of Mrs. Jesse Phillips and Ralph Keller came here to attend the funeral services of Jesse Phillips were taken seriously ill at the home of her sister Mrs. Philips on Saturday evening and her family were called. Her husband KE Finley and daughter Mrs. W K Miller and her husband came that night. Mrs. Finley’s condition improved to such an extent that her husband and son in law who is assistant postmaster in Clarinda returned home that morning. Mrs. Miller will stay and care for her mother until she is able to be taken home.
Warrants issued by Polk County attorney Missildine for J. C. S. Fleming, scion of a Des Moines family and Fleming Brothers executive, on charges including operating an automobile while intoxicated illegal transportation careless driving and use of 1927 license plates. He has prior drunken driving convictions in Ames February 10 1927 and February 19 1928 with fines of 100 dollars and costs. His car crashed into another vehicle last week. he was injured and hospitalized.
