A conductor shows prowess when confronted by robbers who demand hands up. He knocks one bandit to the ground with a lantern as intruders cut an air hose and escape. Police seek further details of the incident.
A list of robberies and arrests across several locations. Richmond reports a post office robbery with $95 000 stolen and suspects arrested in New York after a detective confrontation. McKee's Rocks saw bank robbers kill the manager and cashier and steal $5,000 before escaping. Coal City five robbers battle pursuers with three youths wounded and captured. Sparta Pioneer Limited was held up by masked men.
Two armed men stopped the westbound Pioneer Limited at Oakdale near Sparta. Conductor A P Shumway fought them off with a lantern, saving the train from looting. No booty was found after a posse searched the halted coach line near Wisconsin military reservation. Nearby towns include Tomah and Sparta with recent robberies and jail breaks.
Two African American men were arrested at North La Crosse on suspicion of involvement in a train holdup. They were held for identification by the conductor, refused to give names, and claimed to be from Chicago.
A private dispatch reports the birth on Thursday in Tucson Arizona of a daughter to Mr and Mrs W J Bryan Jr The couple wed Helen Berger daughter of Milwaukee grain dealer Alexander Berger in June 1909 They moved to Tucson for the bride health concerns physicians fear she may suffer consumption
The hairpin editor reports a woman uses as many hairpins as she owns. If she has two pins she uses two to keep her hair up, and if she discovers twenty in the drawer she uses all of them. This curious observation appears in the Atchison Globe.
Albert J. Beveridge is again a candidate for the United States Senate representing Indiana. The Hoosier State Republican faces the upcoming election as he campaigns across the state, outlining his platform and urging voters to support his bid for another term.

Pittsburg April 9 Five thousand workers at Pittsburg and Lake Erie lines will receive a voluntary 6 percent wage raise to align with New York Central system hikes east of Buffalo. The move follows similar increases by Pennsylvania, Reading and others, with Lake Shore and Big Four rumored to pursue raises. Five hundred workers at Morehead Bros plant gained raises, Youngstown Sheet and Tube plans a 10 percent boost for about 1,000 men, and numerous other area employers with around 2,500 workers may raise pay.
Fred Cunningham alias Eddie Fay and Frank Chester alias Little Dick Harris were captured in New York and jailed on charges of rifling the Richmond post office cashier’s safe. A crowd of over a thousand greeted the prisoners at the station as inspectors guard the custody. The men were stripped and bathed before being placed naked in their cells to prevent escape.
Thomas F. Walsh Colorado mine owner died at his Washington home at 11:25 p m after more than six months of heart trouble following pneumonia. His daughter Mrs Edward McLean and Edward McLean were at his bedside with Mrs Walsh as four physicians from Johns Hopkins University hospital attended. Walsh valued at ten to forty million dollars and was a friend of King Leopold II of Belgium.
San Francisco observers report Halley's comet seen near the sun early Friday. Astronomers say the comet will be visible to the naked eye in a few days as it moves farther from the sun.
