Cecil George Amlong died Tuesday at his home in Iowa City after six weeks illness. Amlong born August 23 1893 in Lexington Washington County was a WWI veteran and custodian at the University of Iowa. He is survived by wife Audrey two daughters and a son, six grandchildren, and multiple siblings. Funeral Friday 10 a.m. at Powell Funeral Home Wellman with military rites at burial.

Mrs. Alice McAflin of 698 South Ninth Avenue died Tuesday April 5 1960 at the hospital after a month long illness. Funeral services will be Friday at 10 30 a m at Jones Funeral Home with burial in Elm Grove Cemetery. Washington National Guard members returned to Washington at 9 a m after two days on flood duty aiding Barkley unit at Wapello Iowa River levee breaks flooded about 3000 acres. Capt Harold Stephens said levees were inadequate and men fought a losing battle to hold the lines while 82 guardsmen worked in six hour shifts.
