In Louisville a brief Roosevelt address drew a two block crowd, amid a warm Kentucky welcome. He praised a united country, greeted Confederate veterans, and acknowledged three Lincoln souvenirs presented by locals before departing for the southwest.
Governor Beckham introduces the president who praises national unity and honors Civil War veterans. The speaker notes pride in both Confederate and Union service, salutes the flag, and endorses monuments to Jefferson, Clay, and a national Andrew Jackson statue at New Orleans.
A train bearing the president left St. Louis at 8 30 Pm amid cheers from Madison Illinois and on the east bank of the Mississippi. The engine shrieked as it started on its long run toward Texas with spectators recognizing the passing train.
The president spoke at Milltown and Huntingburg Indiana and Mount Vernon Illinois while en route from Louisville. A change of engines at East Junction Indiana near Princeton occurred as the president jumped from the train to greet railway shop employees. He then passed slowly through Princeton where hundreds of schoolchildren lined the tracks.
J Everest Worthington, an unnamed resident, was captured near the state house after declaring his intent to kill Governor Hoch. He claims to speak through written questions as he feigns deafness and dumbness. Worthington said he was inspired by Pyrus the God of Fire and vowed vengeance on self styled statesmen. He is jailed awaiting transfer to an asylum.
In Zeigler Illinois, 37 bodies have been recovered from the Joseph Leiter mine after a gas explosion. Authorities expect more remains as the mine is cleared. State mine examiner William Scott Atkinson died amid rescue attempts. All Seventh sub-district mines are shut. funeral set for Friday with special trains for 10 000 miners. Joseph Leiter arrived at the shaft.
In Manila and Luzon a striking racial mix is seen among residents of Pampanga. The picture features four girls: the left girl shows Spanish ancestry, the center two are Chinese and Malay, and the right girl is Malay and Japanese.
A thousand dollar bond is posted to release an individual from jail. The bond is furnished by Mrs. Nation who plans to lend the money.

Vienna reports the death of Dr Richard Hein zel, professor of philology at the university, who died by suicide. Officials attribute the act to ill health and note no further details were released.

In Corey Pennsylvania on April 5 Lester Henry is reported to have attacked people before being captured. Initial details describe Savage assaulting several individuals with improvised weapons, causing multiple wounds and prompting police response.
In Pittsburgh on April 5 Harry Kendall Thaw and Evelyn Florence Nesbitt wed at the home of Rev. William L. McEwan, Third Presbyterian Church. The ceremony was private with only family present and witnesses including Mrs. William Thaw and Josiah Thaw.
The Iowa supreme court sustained the state constitutional amendment for biennial elections. It rules that there will be no general election in Iowa this fall and officers with terms expiring are extended one year. The court found the amendment constitutional despite claims it contained multiple propositions.
A fast east bound passenger train the Pittsburg Flyer on the Cleveland and Pittsburg road collided with a westbound freight at Costonia Ohio. Two men died Edward Fuller engineer and H Eming fireman both on the passenger train. Three others were injured.
Wichita on April 5 reports Carrie Nation Mira McHenry Lydia Munts and Lucy Wilbert temperance crusaders awaiting trial for wrecking the glass front of a wholesale liquor house and they volunteered for action.
An Indian, claimed Carliste school graduate, armed with a shotgun, shot Levi Peters dead and wounded others in a Little Valley loggers hut. He pursued a wounded Indian to Versailles, where Deputy Sheriff Dean located him. the suspect, Henry, was arrested and held in the county jail.
In Des Moines Iowa the defense for Marshall Fletching convicted of murdering his wife at Buxton argues a prosecuting attorney's Bible quotation in closing statements created prejudice. The motion for a new trial will be argued next week amid requests to overturn the verdict.
