Prize for Best Advertisement by Young Washington Co. Youth

Readers heard that KE C Carris Co offers a prize to a child under fifteen in Washington County for the best advertisement for the East Side Drug and Book Store to run in the Evening Journal on April 17. Ads must fit a 54 inch by 2 column space and be submitted in a plain sealed envelope by 6 o’clock p.m. April 13. Disinterested parties will decide the winner.

Presbyterian Congregational Meeting Sees Elders Elected

Yesterday the Presbyterian congregational meeting presided by J. B. Henderson elected three elders J S Nichols John Shields and C Cunningham. W P Mottart was named trustee to fill a vacancy from Dr Meacham. R R Rowland continues as Sunday School superintendent with Win Strouse as assistant.

Johnson & Davis Symphony Opera Co Present Sleeping Queen

The Johnson and Davis Symphony Orchestra and Opera Company stage Sleeping Queen tomorrow evening with special advance admission prices of 15 25 and 35 cents. The company has received strong press notices at prior engagements and is expected to draw a crowded house.

Comrades appeal for seed aid to drought stricken Valley County

A letter from Foote Post G A R Ord Nebraska appeals Washington County comrades for seed and feed aid as drought and poor yields in 1893 threaten two hundred Valley County farmers. Railroads offer free transport for donated seed to care of the local relief committee if shipped by April 15.

Local notes span lost child to press calls and court reporting

A two or three year old girl was lost on the streets of Ainsworth and found by her parents. Miss Belle Gibson became Deadwood County Court Reporter, earning ten dollars daily in Dakota. The Robinson Opera Company toured Mt Pleasant Des Moines and will visit Oskaloosa, praised as one of the finest road troupes. Robert Law of the B and N W spoke with this office about system support. Citizens urge parental care to curb youth misbehavior and potential reform school risk. A purse with money was found and available to the owner with proof of property.
