Franklin H. Potter 86 professor emeritus of the University of Iowa classics department died Sunday in Iowa City. Services set for Wednesday. Potter a University faculty member since 1895 headed the Latin department at one time. Survived by two daughters two sons 13 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Three Fire Alarms Hit Washington This Afternoon
Washington firemen faced a busy afternoon with three calls in an hour. A timber fire south of the Rock Island depot was fought by Farmers Mutual Insurance’s truck at 12:45 pm. Ainsworth firemen contained a brush fire behind Heck Gosling’s home after seeking aid from Washington and Crawfordsville. A Crom farm fence line fire south of the city limits prompted a delayed response due to truck availability, while winds caused minor damage including downed TV antennas and a garage collapse near the junior high.

Drowns After Fall Into Iowa River Rescue by Youth
A 69 year old Iowa Falls laborer died after falling 20 feet from a riverbank while trimming a tree. A 13 year old newsboy Craig Peters rescued him from the Iowa River before firefighters arrived, but inquest was planned. The river had just melted ice and the cause of death remained undetermined. The deceased was survived by his wife and two sons.
