In Isabella County Michigan three trustees escaped from jail before dawn after raiding a weapons rack and handcuffing a deputy they fled in a police cruiser. two of the escapees were cleaning the garage when the break occurred.

Fire kills four in North Lake home from faulty wiring
A Chicago area fire blamed on faulty attic wiring killed four people. Victims were Sandra Whittington 19, her daughter Shanon 1, Thomas Walker 11, and Debra Richardson 15. Fire Department chief Raymond Konopa said a short circuit started the blaze in the attic electrical system.

New plan to set county official salaries faces lawmakers
The State Association of Counties proposes a 15 member county compensation commission appointed by the governor to set salaries for elected county officials. The panel would review pay against municipal and federal benchmarks, publish the schedule, hold a public hearing, and could hire consultants. The earliest raise could take effect July 1, 1975.

Giant five foot spider escapes from research project
A team including scientists and police scour Washington County southern areas for a non-poisonous five foot spider nicknamed Bubbles. The creature, bred in Mexico for crop protection, vanished Friday night from a sorghum plot near Skunk River Road. A $100 reward is offered for its recapture.
