Two Car Thefts Reported in Town Tied, Police Investigating

Lois Hill of Washington reported a 1960 model car stolen from in front of the Chocolate Shop at about 2 30 a m. The vehicle was later found in a ditch west of the Sportsmans Lounge. Larry Robertson said his 1970 car parked at the Sportsmans Lounge was stolen and remains missing. Robertson is Sheriff Don Robertson's brother. Law enforcement is investigating.

Fiddler on the Roof musical adds night to improve seats

Washington's Men announce an extra performance of Fiddler on the Roof at the Washington Community School District's venue to fill more seats after adjusting dates. An earlier error on ticket backs misprinted April dates for Friday and Saturday shows. A false alarm at the bus barn prompted a 4:20 p.m. response with no fire found. In Nyack, 15 Marines delivered blood to injured students from Congers at Nyack High School and Nyack Hospital in a helicopter mission led by Lt. Vladimir Okseveski.

Four killed in head on collision near Clarinda

A two car head on crash on a Page County road southwest of Clarinda left four dead and one seriously injured. Victims include Lonny Nelson 17 and John Jones 15 with David 14, all from College Springs. Joey Nelson 13 was in critical condition. Wayne Clark of Maryville Missouri also died. his age was not listed.

New district lines drawn in Iowa counties and townships

The Iowa Supreme Court based redistricting announced Friday places Washington County in Senatorial District 44 with Keokuk Jefferson and Van Buren counties plus townships in Wapello and Lee. Liberty Township moves to another district while Benton County remains in Keokuk County. House District 88 expands to include most of Washington County minus Clay Township and Keokuk County excluding Liberty Liberty, Benton, Jackson, Highland and Steady Run Townships.
