Ida Grove Man Sentenced for Ida Grove Torture Robbery
Sylvester Johns 29 was jailed for 30 years at Fort Madison after confessing to beating and robbing 80 year old Mrs. Anna Matlack in her Ida Grove home on December 22 1940. Leonard Hull 35 pleaded guilty and received 30 years on the same assault with intent to commit murder charge.

Bayard Farmer Killed In Eastbound Hiawatha Crash
Bayard resident Roy McDonald, 51, of a farm three miles southeast of town, died Tuesday afternoon when his car was hit by the Milwaukee Road Midwest Hiawatha at a crossing about a mile east of Bayard. Coroner Harold Hill of Guthrie County said the train struck the car in the middle, killing McDonald outright. He was alone in the vehicle.

Will Place Bins For Reception of Waste Material
