Funeral Services for Mrs Amanda L Sherman Held in Seymour
Funeral services were conducted at Sherman's funeral home for Amanda L. Sherman known as Ella, who died June 15 after years of illness. Burial followed at Elm Grove cemetery. She lived in Seymour and was active in the Rebekah lodge and Christian Science Church. Born February 16 1867 in Decatur county she married twice, to Charles M Todd and later to James P Sherman. Surviving daughters Mrs Lloyd Moothpert and Mrs Edward Nieren. two sons predeceased. four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. several siblings.

Varney Fined for Reckless Driving in Iowa Incident
William Varney a 19 year old from Washington was fined 25 dollars and had his license suspended 69 days after pleading guilty to reckless driving. He was taking 10 youths home from a dance when his car overturned after a broadside collision with an oncoming vehicle. Three persons were injured.

Alpheus Benton Dicken known as Dek died at Washington county hospital at 4 PM after brain tumor surgeries in Chicago. A Rock Island lines construction engineer with the Rock Island system for 31 years, he was 61 and survived by Mina McRae, two sisters, a niece and two aunts. Funeral at Sherman's with interment at Woodlawn. Born March 4 1886 in Medicine Lodge Kansas, he lived in Des Moines and Chicago before returning to Washington.

Davenport hosts federated patriotic societies for the annual Grand Army of the Republic encampment. About 200 Civil War veterans are in the state with under 30 expected to attend. The oldest present is John M. Younkin of Riverside Tra. 97 and the youngest is M. G. Thorne of Mason City Ia. 87.

Company K Vets Hold First Annual Sunset Park Picnic
About 125 men women and children attended Sunset park for the first annual picnic of Washing ton's Company K veterans from prewar and World War I times. Families brought baskets, meals served in the park pavilion, and attendees shared war memories while children played. A 1917 camp site on the grounds was noted and next year’s picnic planned for Fort Madison with several members from Fort Madison and other towns. No business was conducted as officers were already elected last January.

Speakers included Miles of Des Moines and district commander Lew Clark, with Iowa Miller presiding and entertainment by local performers. Two Injured in Wayland Crash
Wayland report states Leonard Leiehty and Glen Wenger were injured in a Thursday night automobile accident while returning from a party at the Fred Wyse home. The Dan Leiehty car struck a bridge abutment south of Center church. Glen Wenger suffered serious head injuries, Leonard Leiehty has a deep knee cut and other injuries. The youths were taken to their parents’ homes.
