Orion lodge of the Knights of Pythias hosted a Friday meeting with state officials led by Robert M. Hibbs grand chancellor of Marengo. Members from multiple Iowa towns attended as candidates from Winfield and Washington received the third rank. A group of about 30 Burlington Y M C A boys completed a fourteen day trip in Canada and traveled through Washington by noon Saturday. Elinor Grant Buried in Ottumwa After Washington County Death
Mrs. Elinor Theodosia Grant widow of J. M. Grant died Sunday morning at her daughter’s home four miles east of Washington and was buried beside her husband in Ottumwa. Funeral services were led by Rev. C. E. Hamilton of Prairie Flower Church. Born April 17 1858 she married J. M. Grant December 23 1881 and later lived near Ottumwa. She is survived by four children Iva May Skinner Pearl Stoops J. E. Grant and Harold P Grant, eleven grandchildren and a sister Ida Hosare.

Remodeling plans for the county court house are under way with a new entrance and easier stairs being installed. A steep staircase is removed and a broad stairway added for ground floor access. West side stone steps will be replaced with windows to create a records room. During work, entrants use the main south entrance.
