Centennial Memorial Fountain Ordered in Washington
The Washington community plans an illuminated 36 foot diameter memorial fountain in Central Park with six water effects and four light colors. Project cost around 2500 dollars, with 1000 on hand and 1500 still needed from individuals and organizations. NYA workers and city staff began removing the old fountain under supervisor Jack McKeone, aiming for installation by August’s centennial celebration.

County Home Voted In For Kossuth County
Algona residents backed a plan to build a new Kossuth county home costing up to 59000 with 1160 votes for and 269 against from 26 precincts most rural wards opposed and Algona 476 for 3 percent against. The old home was destroyed by fire last month and the new facility should be ready this fall funded by a levy not exceeding 14 mills.

State Theater to receive new ceiling canopy and decor

City Council approves angled parking plan for Washington streets
Washington city council moved to write a new parking ordinance after a successful trial on the square. Cars would angle park around the park with a one hour limit in front of stores while center street lanes shift slightly. U turns and truck parking near the square are banned. Beer and cigarette licenses were granted to several establishments for July 1 start.

About 25 members of Company K Washington militia unit and their families attended a picnic at Chau tauqua park in Columbus Junction Sunday. The annual reunion will be at Fort Madison on January 15 with officers to be elected. Members from Columbus Junction and Fort Madison formed the company in 1917.
