Death takes George W. Hillhouse after long illness
George W. Hillhouse died Tuesday evening at his daughter’s home 408 East Harrison Street after four years of poor health and a year and a half bedfast. Born November 22, 1847 in Indiana, he lived much of his life in Havre, Washington County. Survived by five daughters and one son, he was a longtime United Brethren member. Funeral 2:30 p.m. tomorrow at Jones Funeral Home. burial Benson Cemetery.

About 150 people attended in the city hall club room for a banquet honoring the American Legion of Henry County. Out of town guests came from Mt Pleasant Olds Wayland and Salem as Mrs Tracy Phillips provided piano and the Legion Drum Corps performed.

Dougherty Bros Store Burglarized During Fire Hour
Thieves broke into the Dougherty Bros clothing store on the west side of the square late Friday night or early Saturday during the fire. They took several suits two overcoats two or three hats hoses a suitcase ties and about 12 dollars from the cash register. Back door appears unlocked from inside and entry was gained by battering the front door. Night watchman W. M. Bailey discovered the break at about three o'clock Saturday morning and alerted Ralph Dougherty and police, but the burglars had fled with no trace.

Mrs D W Temple Dies After Illness At Home
Mrs D W Temple died at 2:00 am Saturday at her sister's home six miles west of town after two years of failing health. Born February 9 1894 in Kalona she lived in the area since childhood and attended local schools. She married David W Temple on February 2 1922 and leaves a son Sikke David Temple, parents, a sister Prine Temple, and brother Jay S Brewer. She belonged to the United Presbyterian Church and was devoted to its teachings.

Fortnightly Club Flower Show Impresses City Hall Crowd
The Garden department of the Fortnightly club sponsored a Saturday flower show at city hall from 1 to 8 pm. The large room showcased bloom varieties including peonies roses and a rare lady slipper display with a miniature lily pond and Japanese garden. Prizes were awarded by judges from Muscatine for numerous categories including iris hybrid teas and delphiniums with many firsts and seconds listed for individual exhibitors. A tea table supported fundraising and Mrs. Elliot Grayson led the finance committee.

Local Man’s Cows Show High Butterfat at Ames Test
E. P. Hayes of Ames dairyman ranked with high herds in the state butterfat production test for March and April. Hayes’s eight grade Guernsey cows averaged 60.1 pounds of butterfat. The top test belonged to H. C. Cain of O’Brien county whose eight grade Holstein cows averaged 64.7 pounds, though Cain milks more than twice daily to maintain his lead.
