George F. Wallace 78 longtime Highland township assessor died Wednesday afternoon at his home 815 South Iowa Ave after a stroke last Friday. Funeral services were held Friday at Ainsworth United Presbyterian Church with burial in Ainsworth cemetery. Born in Butler County Pennsylvania he moved to Iowa with his parents at age two and married Mary Jane Henderson in 1886. He celebrated 50 years of marriage in 1936 and is survived by his wife three daughters Clara Iowa City Elsie Davenport Mrs Clarence Walker Ainsworth and one son Mae on the home place two grandchildren John Wallace and Mary Jane Walker one daughter died in childhood.

Mary Elizabeth Canter widow of David Canter died Monday at 621 North Second Avenue after a seven week illness. She fell injured two weeks ago, but death followed suddenly. Funeral at L. A. Jones chapel with Rev. R. C. Keagy, burial in Woodlawn. Born Dixon Illinois 1864, she lived on a farm north of town, married over fifty years ago. She was matron of the court house rest room, active in Methodist and missionary societies, and member of Eastern Star and Woman's Relief Corps. Surviving relatives include nieces, nephews, and half sisters Mrs Kate Kirkendall, Mrs Clara Pickler, Mrs Alice Oberdorf, and Charley Smith.
