Walter Eastwood accepts a call to become pastor of the Presbyterian church in Mt Milton Pennsylvania. He will be installed June 24 and will lead a church with over 600 members and a 200 member Sunday school. Eastwood is a Washington high school and Parsons College graduate with a Princeton seminary master and studies at White Biblical School in New York.

Washington held a large commencement at the Methodist church awarding diplomas to 81 high school and 15 junior college graduates. Dr. D. D. Welch of Dubuque University gave the address, mixing humor with practical advice on future study and the value of higher education.

George Crone Dies After Illness at 30
George Elliott Crone, 30, died Sunday evening at University Hospital in Iowa City after a sinus infection and complications. Funeral services were held Wednesday at L. A. Jones Funeral Home with burial in Elm Grove Cemetery. He was born November 11, 1909 in St. Joseph Missouri and moved to Washington as an infant. He worked on a farm before joining Armour Packing at the Washington Rock Island stockyards. He leaves parents John and Lillian Crone and many siblings.

Two Men Plead Guilty to Night Time Soybean Theft
Raymond Tucker and George Norman of Washington were arraigned and pleaded guilty to larceny in the night time for stealing soybeans from a farmer northwest of town. Each was sentenced to six months in the county jail by Judge Patterson. Harley Noel faced assault charges with not guilty plea. he is bound over for the September term.

Elwin Lewis of Washington Iowa learned his brother Harry E Lewis 44 was struck and killed by a transport truck near Denver. The death was confirmed by Denver authorities and the brother’s message via Sheriff H M Putnam. Lewis had been visiting relatives in Denver and previously lived in Kirwin Kansas Los Angeles and Washington Mist fall. He never married.
