Eighty six seniors were awarded diplomas Friday evening at the Methodist church as rain pounded outside. Dr Charles Medbury of Des Moines spoke on education’s objectives focusing on industry honesty and service. Dr BE Stutsman presented diplomas to the 1927 class, the second largest to graduate from the local school.

The Leon Beatty Post of the American Legion sponsors the event, with a portion of proceeds allocated to the post. Seven year old Robert Morgan killed by lightning in Brighton
In Brighton Iowa during a Friday evening storm lightning struck the Tom Morgan home killing seven year old Robert Morgan who played with his twin sisters Ina and Nina in the room struck by the bolt. The grandparents and uncle were in the room and escaped injury. The house suffered extensive damage including a torn clothing, blown stove side, shattered window and damaged flooring. Funeral services were held at 2:50 p m.

Funeral Services Held for Mrs. James Redd
Funeral services were held Friday at 2 PM from the A M E church for Mrs. James Redd with Rev. P A Jackson officiating. Burial followed in Elm Grove. Pall bearers were Nate Black Henry Rhodes W A Watts Mayes Crayton James Turner Theodore Turner. Mrs Redd born December 9 1862 in La Grange Tennessee came to this county in 1865 and married James Redd in 1866. She survived by her husband a brother Frank Moore and sister Mrs A G Clark of Oskaloosa two daughters Marie and Elizabeth are deceased. She was active in the local A M E B church society.

Rev Arthur A Vinz class of 1927 Northern Baptist Theological Seminary Chicago has accepted the pastorate of the local Baptist church. The announcement was read at Sunday services and he will be ordained Tuesday in Peoria Illinois. The call came despite other offers as respected by the seminary president. Dr H C Leland acting pastor for three months left for De Witt.
