Longtime Washington resident James Lemon dies after illness
Funeral services were held Monday for James Orlando Lemon who died Friday at 1008 East Washington Street after a weeklong heart illness. Born September 29, 1844 on a farm southeast of Washington he lived his life in the area. Surviving are two sons George of California and James of Washington and one sister Mrs. Phoebe Weldin. Burial is Elm Grove cemetery.

Oil Station Held Up Early Wednesday Morning
Sheriff Chas Denison reports no trace yet of two men who robbed LeRoy Jungenheimer at an oil station on primary road No 1 about 2 am Wednesday. The Essex car pair demanded the money from Jungenheimer and left with three dollars, heading toward the Brighton road. One suspect is tall and well built, the other short and stout.

The McCormick Deering Farmall tractor shown on the Charles Wilson farm south of the city demonstrated corn plowing with speed and ease compared to horses. A rotary hoe attachment followed to break up furrow lumps and weed small plants. Present were BE F Ward from the local office, Dan Lindblad and F J Fenstel from Davenport, and BE F Edmondson. The turning radius impressed observers as the machine avoids injuring corn stalks during turns.
