Washington High School Holds 70th Commencement
The 70th commencement joined Washington high school and junior college graduates in caps and gowns. Seventy years of schooling produced 118 graduates plus 14 junior college seniors who also received diplomas. Scholarships were awarded to Alberta Godfrey Marjorie Faulkner and Faye Schoonover. Sixty seven new cars were sold in Washington county in May, up slightly from the previous year. Registrations for 1940 total 6 419 on the day, with trucks licensed at 822. James Redd died Saturday at the county home hospital at one o'clock. He was born March 29, 1860, and spent years as a barber in Washington before retirement. Funeral services were held at Sherman's funeral home Monday morning. His wife Eliza Moore and two daughters Marie and Elizabeth predeceased him. surviving relative listed is sister-in-law Addie Clark of Oskaloosa.
