Rev M C Carstensen led services Sunday afternoon for Mrs. James W. Combs at the L A Jones funeral home. She died Thursday after a ten day illness and is buried in Elm Grove cemetery. Born August 1 1886 in Dutch Creek township, she spent her life on farms west of Washington. Survived by husband James, two daughters Isabelle and Rosalie, a son John, her mother Mrs Frank Smith, brothers Bert and Marion, a sister Mrs Walter Sheets, and other relatives. She was a member of New Haven Baptist Church and the Community club.

Memorial Exercises Impress Washington Veterans Parade
Only two of Washington's Civil War veterans attended the Memorial Day observance, both over 90. The parade opened with marshals on horseback, the Municipal band, firing squads, Boy Scouts, a Legion color guard, and decorating committees. Sections moved to Lawn and Elm Grove cemeteries for flower ceremonies and brief talks by Dr. Arthur Atack and Robert Oakley. The day ended with ideal weather and a highly regarded tribute to veterans.
