Marion native M O Clapper, aged 75, died Tuesday morning at son Leland’s home in Duluth Minnesota after years of ill health. He leaves widow Emma Porter and three children Leland Carl and Lyle, with one child deceased. Surviving brothers George and O K Clapper live in Washington and sister Miss Accie Clapper in Keota. He belonged to Mason and Odd Fellows lodges.

Atty Ed Bicher spoke Monday afternoon at Brighton Memorial Day ceremonies held in the cemetery at 2 30 pm. He honored soldiers, urged citizen service during economic emergencies, and called for unity to weather reconstruction. The American Legion led the event with band music, grave decorations, a reading by Jesse Stout, and a Gettysburg address reading by Cloyce Johnson.

Harold Young Jailed After Alleged Injury to Father
Harold Young is jailed in Washington county awaiting word on injuries to his father George Young. The son allegedly inflicted the harm while intoxicated. George Young was taken to hospital with cuts and bruises but injuries are not expected to be serious. County Attorney George F. Morrison said charges will depend on the father’s recovery and the injuries’ severity.

Westphal Store Window Robbed Of Nine Watches
The Westphal jewelry store on the square reported a theft early Friday morning as nine green watches, some men's and some women's, were stolen from the north window. The thief broke the window with a cinder wrapped in a towel to muffle noise, discarding both at the scene. Bennie Share found the break between five and six o'clock, notifying Jack Westphal and police. Descriptions provided to sheriff McCarty aim to locate the thief if the watches surface for sale.

J Werner of Brighton Dies After Prolonged Illness
Jake Werner of Brighton died about 11 30 this morning at his home after several months illness. He was born in Jefferson County and lived near Brighton all his life. He is survived by his wife and a stepson Neil Whisler, two brothers Fred of Washington and Dave of Brighton, and two sisters Mrs Henry Kientz of San Benito Texas and Mrs Henry Diers of Fairfield. Funeral arrangements not yet made.

Lieutenant Walter G. Conner of Troop F 113th Cavalry announced a contract with S. W. Brundage Shows for a Washington appearance next week to benefit the troop fund. Funds go to mess, food not on menu, and equipment for troopers at the state camp. troop funds suffered from last year’s cow war. The carnival company opened its 1932 season at Davenport and will move to Ottumwa after Washington. M. T. Judge D W Hamilton sustained a defense motion for a new trial in the David R. Munro versus Iowa State Highway Commission case.
