Fire destroyed the Baker farm residence of Mrs A M Baker about 10:30 am with neighbors aiding. Fire crews from Keota and Washington fought the blaze but could not save the home or most contents. Some upstairs furniture survived and insurance partially covered the loss. John Custer drove the Washington County Farmers Mutual Insurance truck to the scene.

Mrs Wilbur S Courtney died Monday night at her Brighton home three miles east, the illness due to erysipelas after returning from Illinois to tend a brother. Born Emma Stockman January 16 1872 in Fulton County Illinois she wed Wilbur S Courtney September 22 1892. Survived by her husband and three sons Clyde Glenn Louis from Clayton Township Wayland Canton. Funeral was held Wednesday at 2 pm at the home with Rev. R W Fillmore officiating. burial in Brighton Cemetery.
