Riverside farmer Edward Godlove dies at 74
Edward W. Godlove prominent Riverside farmer died at Mercy hospital Iowa City shortly after 1 am Thursday from coronary heart trouble. He was 74, married Laura Brown in 1895, and survived by son Marion, two sisters Nellie McConnell and Kate Lewis, and brother Dr. Lester Godlove. He chaired the North Ridge school board for 20 years and was a Riverside Methodist Church trustee. Funeral held Friday at Riverside Methodist Church with burial in Riverside cemetery.

A Christmas program was held Thursday evening at St. Pauls Evangelical Church. A good sized crowd attended as the pulpit was decorated with Christmas trees, a large poinsettia, and red candles. Mrs Harmston, Mrs Witthoff, and Mrs Zieglowsky trained the children and junior choirs performed selections by Martha Zieg, Violet Simmering, and Darlene Joigts.

Brackins Recovering After Auto Crash Near Washington
Mr and Mrs K E Brackin of What Cheer injured in an auto accident last Friday afternoon near Washington and Wheat Chester are recovering at the county hospital. Mr Brackin, 67, was most seriously injured. The couple rode with their daughter Mrs I D Applegate of Sycamore Illinois during a Christmas visit when the car slid into a ditch. Mrs Applegate and her two young sons were not badly hurt. A second crash involved Eli Knepp and C E Stricker near Washington with minor damage and a slight cut to Knepp.

Fire Destroys Bontrager Home In Rural North Iowa
A chimney spark starting attic flames destroyed Elmer Bontrager's residence on an acreage north of the city near North Iowa avenue Thursday morning. The Farmers Mutual fire truck arrived with John Custer at the wheel but the blaze was well underway, with neighbors aiding in removing lower floor belongings while upper rooms suffered losses. The Bontragers moved to the Little property on North Marion avenue to live temporarily.
