Car Strikes Signal Post Injuring Couple at Washington
Robert Godfrey of New York City and Miss Ellen Morrison of St. Joseph Missouri were seriously hurt when the car they rode struck a railway crossing signal post on North Marion avenue. Godfrey suffered a head concussion and a forehead cut. Morrison had a scalp wound, facial cuts, and six broken ribs. They were visiting Washington for Christmas and were taken to Washington County Hospital.

Death of W L Bible Led To Funeral Services In Winterset
Funeral services for William Lonzo Bible who died Sunday after a brief illness were held at Sherman’s funeral home with Dr. Fr C Witzigman in charge. Burial followed in Elm Grove cemetery. Bible, born December 28 1866 in Coshocton Ohio, is survived by his wife Lillie A Spera and siblings Mrs W E Clark Mrs W A Davis J L Bible G H Bible and A H Bible. He worked for Wolf Floral for seven years and lived in the area eighteen years after moving from Coshocton to Decatur then Winterset and finally Washington. He was a longtime Methodist Episcopal church member and Bible class teacher who formerly belonged to the Methodist Protestant church.

Seek to Recover Money Sinn Took in Des Moines
Negotiations to recover about 4000 dollars of bank funds allegedly embezzled by Raymond Sinn, formerly in charge of Amesworth Haskins and Cotter banks, are under way between the state banking department and Sinns bonding companies. H S Lukwa is presenting claims to the four bonding firms and determining missing funds. The department aims to recover the funds and aid in prosecution if Sinn is found. Linn fled with his wife and two children from Washington Iowa.

A basement fire in Fairfield destroyed the J. C. Penney store on the square, causing about 25 thousand dollars for the stock and 25 thousand for the building. Nearby Leber department store suffered smoke damage while the Risk and Labor buildings also felt the incident. Cash receipts totaling around six hundred dollars were lost and insurance covers the fire. Fire crews fought the blaze from 6:15 pm until about 9:30 pm with Ottumwa aid.

Charles M Corpman 64 died suddenly Tuesday afternoon at his Brighton township farm heart attack in a hayloft. Born January 17 1869 in Dutch Creek township he moved to Brighton 87 years ago. Survived by Minnie Ann Nelson wife two children Alma Seethout Carl Corpman three grandchildren two sisters and funeral set for Thursday at L A Jones funeral home with burial in Elm Grove cemetery.
