An invoice for the second payments on Washington county corn-hog contracts was received December 19 from the AAA in Washington DC. The second payments total 169920 and cover 1229 items to be distributed among contracting farmers. distribution will be organized by Chairman O C Patterson and the county committee. Five Iowa counties Hardin Page Dubuque Chickasaw Ringgold also received checks this week.

Traffic Survey Opened At 16 Stations In Washington County
Sixteen stations will operate through next April as a relief project in Washington county. The first station on primary road No 2 north of Washington runs 12 hours daily with six hour shifts. Stations will follow an identical schedule, except at the No 2 and No 161 junction near Ainsworth for two weeks 24 hours daily. Workers tally cars to gauge highway use. sixteen men are assigned, with rotating crews and shelters provided. Lew Swartzendruber, aged 79, died at his Wellman area home eight miles northeast of the town. The funeral will be at Lower Deer Creek Mennonite church at 1 p.m. Wednesday conducted by John Y. County Treasurer Marion George said Tuesday morning that automobile license sales are rising after a slow start. 806 Washington county cars had licenses for 1935, vs 469 on the same date in 1934, while 65 trucks are licensed now compared with 48 last year. Transfer on a 1934 registration must be completed this month for a new license. Storage of a car for winter requires reporting by February first and plate delivery to the treasurer to avoid penalty.

Riverside Iowa December 18 Frank Knebel aged sixty five died at University hospital Iowa City after a weeks long illness begun Thanksgiving Day. He was mayor of Hills and a longtime community figure.
