Mrs. Isaac Stockman of Brighton died at University hospital in Iowa City aged 76 after two weeks of treatment. The body will be brought home. services likely Wednesday at the Christian church she attended. Her husband died 3.5 years ago. Survived by adopted son Will of West Chester, brother John Hagan of Libertyville, and sister Mrs. Clark Ball of Ottumwa.
The Rev Joseph O Donnell began duties as new pastor at St James Catholic Church following the death of Rev O J McGuire in Des Moines. He previously led Cosgrove Iowa parish and delivered a Christmas season sermon urging devoted parishioners. Preparations for Christmas morning services are under way with three masses in the forenoon and no midnight mass.
Orin D. Booth, 61, died Friday evening at his home near West Chester from erysipelas. Funeral held Sunday at L. A. Jones Funeral Home with Rev. C. E. Hamilton officiating. Burial in Elm Grove cemetery. Survived by widow Nellie and three children Melvin Ester Frances all at home, sister Eva Mouser, brothers Joe and Will Booth.

Elders Emeritus include John Briley and John Malin for life. other officers include deacons trustees clerks treasurers and an organist, with Ralph Kellar as superintendent of Sunday School and Leona Parcell as pianist.
Mrs John Myers age 52 died Sunday morning at her home in Elden Iowa. She fell ill Saturday and funeral services were held Tuesday at Zion Lutheran church Douds. Born 1877 she lived near Douds most her life. Survived by husband four sons and three daughters including Mrs John Trout and Lela Myers.
Coach Hod Rice of Libbey high school Toledo leads his team to the Demon stronghold Monday at 8 p.m. on a holiday Iowa tour after road games in Chicago Fairfield Muscatine and Waterloo. Demon coach Jimmy Schultz expects a tight contest as locals anticipate Hod’s return to Iowa.
The Methodist church choir under Mrs. Lewis Warren presented a Christmas carol vesper last Sunday. Members wore new robes and the offering funds robes. Soloists Gladys Williams Mrs J E Ream and Mrs H B Knight led most numbers. A fifteen voice male chorus performed God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and Gesu Bambina featured by the three sopranos.
J W Enslin president of the Better Washington club says there will be no meeting this month. The event was planned for Friday but no time is set yet. A new meeting is hoped for after Christmas.
Mr and Mrs Frank Beatty connected with the State hospital at Woodward Iowa send greetings to Washington people. Beatty formerly served as superintendent of the County hospital in Washington. At Woodward hospital six day Christmas programs begin tomorrow December 20 and run to the 27th. School children will furnish the programs. Each building has a Christmas tree.
QLena Stewart underwent a operation for removal of tonsils this week. She is recovering nicely. Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Hammer and two sons spent the weekend visiting with friends in Cedar Rapids.
Sometime Saturday night or early Sunday burglars entered the Standard Oil station on North Marion Avenue. The safe was found open and forty dollars in cash was missing. The sheriff was notified but no clues have been found.
Mrs J P Thomas leaves this week for Groton South Dakota to stay with her sister Mrs R E Eyestone for several weeks. She plans a brief stop in Omaha to visit niece Ruth Eyestone before continuing to Groton.
Dr. and Mrs. C. A. Boice and son Junior travel to Des Moines for a medical meeting then drive to Ames for the graduation of their daughter Miss Sevilla Boice at eleven o'clock. She has specialized in Hospital Dietetics.
Mrs. James P. Hennon of West Chester dies at 72 after a three year illness. Private funeral held at L. A. Jones Funeral Home with Rev. Garden officiating. Interment at Elm Grove. Survived by husband James P. Hennon and children Jennie Harley Charles Hennon Walter Fisher William Hennon and step son Louis Smith daughter died in 1918.
Petit jurors and twelve grand jurors were drawn at the court house for the January term. Judge D W Hamilton of Grinnell will preside. Grand jurors report the first week, petty jurors the second. Names include Walter Anderson Wellman Axel Anderson Kalona Blanche Adams Kalona and many others from Washington Wellman Kalona and surrounding towns.
Washington high school aims to avenge last year’s one point defeat as they host Muscatine in a Little Six opener at eight tonight. Captain Kiesey and Wells lead a tall, athletic lineup with Henke and Ahrens in the middle, while Burke of Muscatine tests Gail Henke as Washington competes for conference supremacy.
Grier Glasgow a former Washington resident died at his home in San Francisco on Monday December 2. His sister Alma G White notified Dr. and Mrs. C W Stewart by letter. Glasgow, a pharmacist, earlier worked at J H Stewart drug store and lived in Washington before moving to California about twenty five years ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Grayson travel to Ottumwa where Mr. Grayson takes a required examination for railway conductors.
