Fifty Men to Work on Washington County Quarry Project
Fifty men will be put to work Thursday at a new quarry on a Dan A Guy farm west of the Sandy Hook corner, under county relief chief Carl W Klein. The site near Brighton is one of several county projects aimed at employing a total of 227 county workers on civil works, with a payroll near $5,000 weekly and a 30 hour week at 50 cents an hour.

Santa Arrives in Washington Brings Cheer to Children
Fatigued from a long journey, Santa Claus greeted hundreds of local children in downtown Washington. He held court at Central Park for the forenoon, giving each youngster a personal message and candy from 10:15 onward, passing out 1,250 treats. He then led a parade around the square with reindeer and five husky dogs, followed by a crowd of children, and departed with Eskimo friend Tautak to continue his itinerary.

Funeral services set for Mrs. Elmer Thomas Thursday
Funeral services for Mrs. Elmer Thomas 38 of Rock Island who died Sunday in a Davenport hospital are planned for two o'clock Thursday afternoon at the L A Jones funeral home. Rev A A Vinz of the Baptist church will conduct. She spent most of her life in Washington and left three months ago with her family for Rock Island. Irma May Brown born Rose Hill April 18 1895 as daughter of Thomas Brown and Margaret Brady Brown attended Washington schools and married Elmer Thomas in 1918. Surviving are her husband and her mother.

Ellis M. Rouse, 84, died Thursday morning at 7:30 in his home at 739 South Iowa Avenue after a long illness. Funeral services were at nine o'clock at L. A. Jones funeral home with Dr F. C. Witzigiman officiating, burial at Rock Island cemetery. Born July 31, 1849 in Kalamazoo Michigan, he lived in Illinois before moving to Washington in 1920. He married Martha Miler in 1886. she died in 1917. He was a member of the Methodist church and the Masonic lodge and is survived by a sister, Mrs. Emma Titterington.
