First 1935 corn loan funded within four hours
The county’s first federal corn loan of 1935 was approved within four hours after forms arrived December 4 from the Commodity Credit Corporation. Sealer Howard M. Stewart of Crawfordsville and Walter R. Brown sealed the loan and inspected corn, with preparations to seal cribs and push loans forward. Eligible corn must grade No 3 when shelled next July.

Mrs. Bruce I. Moomey of Wellman Dies at 54
Funeral services for Mrs. Bruce I. Moomey, 54, a Wellman native born February 16, 1881, will be held at 2 PM Thursday at the Wellman Methodist Church. Burial will be in Wellman cemetery. She died at Mercy Hospital after years of ill health. Surviving are her husband, a son Ihrl Le Monte Moomey of Denver, parents Clark and Patience Brown, and a sister Jessie. Her maiden name was Austin Mariah Brown. She and Bruce Moomey married June 5, 1901. The son will arrive from Denver for the funeral.

Bernard Daryl Lewis, 23, died at Washington County Hospital from pneumonia. Funeral services were held Sunday at L. A. Jones Funeral Home with Dr. B F. Schwartz and Rev. C E. Strong officiating. Burial followed in Keota. Born December 4, 1911 in Bird City Kansas, he was the son of Elwin and Nellie M Pardon Lewis and lived in the county since boyhood. He attended Washington schools and worked on local farms. He married Florence Martin February 4, 1932 in Rock Island. He is survived by his widow, his parents, and siblings Mrs Howard Disney of Wayland Everett Lewis of Keota William Retha Ena and Una all of Washington.

Grand Champion Steer Brings $3 a Pound at Chicago Show
Pat's Blue Ribbon, the grand champion steer at the International Live Stock Show in Chicago, sold for $3 a pound netting $3,150 to Nathan Schweitzer Co of New York. Owner Cleo Yoder of Wellman Iowa plans to use proceeds toward college at Iowa State. Yoder, 19, becomes the second junior exhibitor to win the grand championship in the show's history. The 1,050 pound steer was born Aug 10 1934 and raised on a Johnson County farm with Holstein origin and a grain diet.

Morris Cattle in Good Showing at International Livestock Show
Hugh Morris of Ainsworth sent a carload of sixty Hereford calves to Chicago for the International, his fourth year competing. The cattle, purchased in Washington on March 15 from Turkington Bros, weighed 820 pounds then and averaged 915 pounds in Chicago, earning $14.59 per hundred for the 15 kept and $13.25 for the 45 sent away. Despite not placing, the load ranked among 81 of 186 passing the sitting committee, a source of pride for Morris who also notes the cattle were the shortest fed load to the International in years.

Three Keota Teens Hurt in Keota West Chester Crash
Three young Keota residents were treated at Washington county hospital Sunnight after a Sunday evening auto crash two miles west of West Chester. Wayne Rash a two year old carpenter of Keota died yesterday morning after a year of failing health and three months bedfast with heart trouble and paralysis. Funeral will be Tuesday at 2:30 p m at the Christian church with burial in Keota cemetery. He was born May 21 1895 in Richland community. Bible Day was held at the United Presbyterian Church Sunday with Rev. D E Fulton preaching on the Seven Wonders of the Bible and reading an evening epistle.
