Funeral Services for Mark M. Schafer Held at Wellman
Funeral services were conducted Sunday at the Wellman Methodist church for Mark M. Schafer. Interment followed in Wassonville cemetery. Schafer, born August 27, 1896, died at Temple University hospital Philadelphia after care at Mayo and other facilities. He served in World War I and later managed local telephone companies before returning to Wellman. He was active in church, American Legion, Masons, Odd Fellows, and Wellman Rotary. Survived by wife Margaret and two daughters Virginia and Juanita, plus several siblings and half-siblings.

John Weber about 46 a farmer near here was found dead near a fence the victim of a hunting accident. He had been shot through the head and it is believed he crawled toward the fence and discharged the shotgun. His son Bruce found the body after he failed to return.

Kalona man jailed seven months for bootlegging sales
Clarence Lewis of Kalona was sentenced to seven months in the Washington county jail for selling whiskey in his Kalona tavern. He was arraigned after a Saturday raid that found a small whiskey stock and evidence of liquor sales to patrons. Sheriff Putnam said 25 to 30 young people were present, with nine ages 15 to 20, most likely minors.

Riverside obituary for Mrs. Charles Cummings 71 who died Monday night in Riverside after long illness. She lived in Riverside all her life, married June 6 1888 in a double wedding, and she and Charles celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1938. Death of Charles Stutsman Follows Hospitalization After Accident
Charles J. Stutsman died at Washington county hospital after a brain concussion from a fall from a loading chute at the Maplecrest plant. The Wellman area resident was born July 29, 1888, at Sharon Centers and survived by four children, two grandchildren, and several siblings. He died after being injured Friday at Sharon Evangelical church.
