Democrats Spend $337 in County Campaign Funds
The Washington county Democratic committee reported expenses of 337.91 and receipts of 376.84 with a 38.93 balance. Expenditures covered newspaper ads headquarters rentals printing signs postage and routine campaign costs. 193 Properties Sold for Taxes in Washington County
At the delinquent tax sale Monday at 10 the Washington county treasurer Marion S. George said 193 advertised properties were sold. The sale covered 984 town and country parcels with adjournment to Feb 1 for unsold lots. County bid in 129 pieces, 64 sold to individuals including 50 to Murphy W. Adams for the Iowa Land Corporation.

JEFFERSON Iowa. Donald B Pirie 64 of Cooper was awarded an initial $100 and nominated for the Kate Smith radio program weekly heroism prize of $500 after rescuing an 86 year old friend from a car overturned in the Raccoon river east of Jefferson. His own right arm was broken in the accident.

Health seal sale raises funds for tuberculosis fight in county
A countywide Christmas seal drive reports early returns of 150 dollars on 550 dollars pledged. Envelopes sent to residents request one dollar per set of one cent seals to support tuberculosis control locally and at the state level. Half the proceeds stay in the county health unit for local work, the rest to the state organization.

Funeral rites held for Mrs Emaline Harman Saturday
Funeral services were conducted at L A Jones funeral home for Mrs Emaline Harman who died Thursday evening. Rev Arthur Atack led the Methodist service with burial in Elm Grove cemetery. She had lived with her two Washington daughters since her husband's death seven years earlier. Her children include Mrs Otto Schiebel of Washington Iowa and Mrs Charles Edwards of Iowa City.

L G Shaver of Iowa City died suddenly Monday evening at his sister in law's home in Iowa City at age 71. Funeral services were held Thursday at 10 30 am at a local Iowa City funeral home.
