The ten room Mathers family home on the gravel road east of Haskins burned after 12 30 Monday morning. Jean Mathers woke to smoke and alerted parents who found the fire in the basement. Firemen and neighbors limited the blaze. the truck prevented nearby buildings from catching fire.

Former Wellman Resident Dies After Long Illness
William McConnell, a former Wellman resident born June 14, 1861, died Thursday at his daughter’s home in West Liberty from heart and kidney ailment. Surviving are his wife Nellie and five daughters Hattie, Jesse Ryan, Harvey Blumenstein, C. W. Steninger, Max Duskin, and one grandson. Funeral services were held at the Wellman Methodist church with Rev. Paul Hann officiating.

NYA to Tear Down Heights School in Washington Project

Mrs Christiann Bumgartner 86 died about 12:30 AM at her daughter Mrs Will Craft’s home near Germanville nine miles south of Brighton. She had pneumonia since last Saturday. Born Anna Schafer November 1 1852 at St Madison, she was one of eight children. She married Christian Bumgartner March 26 1876 at Ft Madison and lived on a Germanville farm until his death April 20 1917. Survived by three children Mrs Will Craft Germanville Mrs Harry Isenhart near Hatavia and John Bumgartner Packwood one sister Mrs Ella Otten Ft Madison eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
