Bandit Steals $25 From Harwood Store in Broad Day Hold-Up
A robber, about six feet tall in a Mackinaw, held up Harwood’s shoe store on Wednesday evening near 6.00, taking about $25 from the cash register. The bandit, described as cool and experienced, fled west after the hold-up, with officers pursuing but no trace found. He had been seen in town all day, including a stop at Sherman drug store and a city hall meal.

Mrs Rex McCarty died Sunday after seven months illness. Private funeral services were held at Sherman’s funeral home with Rev A A Vinz officiating. Burial was in Conesville cemetery. Pearl Lavina Thornton born November 16 1892 in Muscatine was daughter of J Y and Emma Thornton. She married Rex McCarty May 25 1912 and lived in Washington, Chicago, and Conesville area. She leaves husband, her father, two daughters Mildred Davis and Helen Ruth McCarty, and sisters Mrs Flossie Johnston Mrs Gladys Hollenbeck Mrs Ruth Thornton and Mrs Myrtle Edwards.

Farm home of Frank Kuhn destroyed by fire near Cop-pock road
Fire discovered about 8:30 Sunday evening gutted the Frank Kuhn farm residence seven miles south of town on the Cop pock road. John Arthur, asleep in the house, escaped with only clothing and bed clothing after Rev. Earl Chader alerted him. The kitchen fire likely started the blaze, with losses estimated at 1500 to 1800 dollars and insured through Farmers Mutual. The Kuhn family stayed with Louis Fetes Sunday night and planned temporary housing and rebuilding plans Monday.

The Cotton Blossom Singers from Piney Woods school Mississippi performed at a Mis sissippi Methodist church Friday night to a good sized crowd. They received about sixteen dollars in offerings. The school has ten quarters out presenting programs nationwide. The crowd enjoyed the quartet and the Piney Woods project pictures. Junior college work has been added with industrial training.

City Jail Shelters 226 Overnight In November

Mrs. Fritz of Brighton Dies at 42 After Cancer
Mrs. Will Fritz, 42, died at home two miles south of Brighton after a battle with cancer. Born Gertrude Keller on March 17, 1890, she married Will Fritz on January 4, 1908 and lived in Brighton. Keokuk high school coached by Jim Shultz wins the Missouri Valley conference title this year. The team beat Quincy 13-7 Fort Madison 12-6 Macomb 18-6 and tied Hannibal 0-0. They also defeated Hamilton 14-0 Milton 18-0 lost to Burlington 6-0 and tied Centerville 7-7 Mt. Pleasant 13-13 with Carthage remaining to finish. It is Keokuk’s first conference title since 1924 and first win over Ft. Madison since then. Shultz began with four letter-men and leads a squad of sixty with two assistants.

Funeral services for Hm phrey E. Davis 61 lifelong resident of the Cotter area were held at 2 PM in Cotter Presbyterian Church led by Rev W H Parker. Kenneth Herr of Ainsworth, 72, had his right leg amputated after a shotgun discharge while rabbit hunting on his mother's farm. Walter Jungbluth, a Washington high school senior, suffered a shotgun wound to an arm in Conesville. doctors say his injuries are not likely serious.
