Jennie Clendenning aged 87 died at 7 50 a m Thursday at the home of her daughter Mrs Mary Beggs 120 East Seventh street Burial was in Elm Grove cemetery Funeral services were held at Shermans funeral home at 2 30 Sunday afternoon conducted by Dr F C Witzigman of the Methodist church She was born May 3 1848 in Circleville Ohio married Oct 25 1883 to James Clendenning They lived on a farm northwest of Washington moved to Washington in 1904 and had lived there since Her husband died in 1919 A son Charles died in 1926 She leaves daughter Mary Beggs son David and one sister Mrs James Gordon and one brother John M Simpson The deceased was a lifelong United Presbyterian church member.

Station Agent at Olds Kills Himself With Shotgun
OLDS Aug. 24 Albert Over ly depot agent for the M. & SL railroad for about thirty years killed himself with a shotgun at 6:46 this morning. He was about 65 years old and had not been well. He is survived by his wife Rhoda Calloway and a brother, rence, at Pinesville. Funeral arrangements pending word from the family.
Derailed M. & St. L. Freight Wreck Near Brighton
A westbound M. & St. L. freight No. 97 derailed at the switch junction two miles west of Brighton at 7:50 last evening. The engine overturned at a 45 degree angle, five coal cars derailed with three demolished, about 150 feet of track torn up. Work on the wreckage continued this morning with track clearance hoped by noon. Cause under investigation.

Paul Horak Hurt in Car Accident
Paul Horak suffered injuries when his car slid into a ditch and overturned north of town. He is reported to be in favorable condition at the county hospital with the most serious injury to a leg. He will be laid up for some time.

County Winners Dominate State Fair Exhibits
The Washington county bantams and 4 H projects earned top prizes at the state fair. Cushman and Bailey of Washington Iowa claimed the champion female in the game bantam class and Prall Bantam Yards of Washington Iowa won the champion female in the ornamental phantom class. Marshall county led in several livestock categories with a grand 4 H baby beef from a Marshall county Aberdeen Angus shown by Clifton Goecke.

Troopers Return From Camp Dodge Homeward Bound
Troop F of the 118th Cavalry returns from Camp Dodge after a two week training, with Captain Jay Brown praising the camp. Forty six of sixty members attended, injuries were minimal, and Roy Glider was treated for a non breaking arm injury after a horse show. The unit traveled home by train Sunday morning.

Governor Suspends Brown's Sentence for Hospital Exam

County 4-H Boys Win Fair Awards
Washington county 4-H club boys won first in county groups for Aberdeen Angus beef heifers and captured all placings in Yorkshire pigs at the state fair. Ardell Geret of Riverside led senior Aber deen Angus heifers with first and Lloyd Marek of Washington third. Yorkshire pig winnings included Boars first Joe Dougall and second Donald Rinner. Fat Barrows saw Edward Chabal second. Wellman and Johnson county groups also posted top placings in Fat Barrows and judged contests, with Greene county winning the livestock judging title.

Mrs George M Fulton Dies After Long Illness
Mrs George M Fulton aged 65 died August 21 at 7 15 p m at her home 802 West Hill Street after four years of ill health and a stroke suffered Tuesday. Born Sarah Isabel Euwer January 5 1870 at Centerville Iowa she lived in Ainsworth Washington and Franklin township before moving to Washington in 1934. She married George M Fulton on September 12 1901 and was a longtime member of United Presbyterian Church. Surviving are daughter Mrs Archie Euwer and sons Clarence and Harold all of Washington her mother Mrs A N Euwer of Washington one sister Mrs May Stewart of Washington and Mrs Grace Ervin of Cincinnati Iowa one brother Matthew Kuwer of Sheldon Missouri and five grandchildren.

A large crowd attended the Clay Township picnic held Thursday at the village grounds marking the first event in nine years. Officers were elected: O. W. Schmitter president, Max Waterhouse vice president, Esther Parcell secretary, J. M. Stone treasurer. Talks by Supt. H. C. Messer, Rev. Wilson Heyde and Rev. Louis Elringer followed with music and recitations. Relatives of Mrs. Harold W. Johnson plan a reunion in the area tomorrow drawing visitors from Metropolis Muscatine and Burlington.
