Theft From Mail Box at R. I. Station
Sheriff R H McCarty investigated a Monday night mail robbery at the Rock Island station Brighton. Two pouches of first class mail were stolen from a locked box used for night train mail, discovered at 6 30 Tuesday morning by mail carrier C B Robison. No clues were left and only the pouches and contents were removed. Federal inspectors were notified to assist.

Attack by bandits wounds Crombie Allen in Los Angeles
Crombie Allen former Report publisher, traveling from Boston after Rotary event, was shot in the neck during an unprovoked assault in Los Angeles. A woman accompanying him was more seriously wounded as the bandits robbed them. Allen's injuries are not believed to be serious.

Watchman for Machinery Dies at County Home
Vacil Tripschoff 63 a Bulgarian native and longtime watchman for Oklahoma Construction Corp died Wednesday afternoon August 16 at the Washington county home. He lived in a tent among the companys machines south of the Rock Island freight house since the natural gas pipeline project began. He had been ill for weeks and was moved to the county home this week. Tripschoff had 27 years in the United States with no known relatives here and a sister believed in Bulgaria. Burial was Friday in Woodlawn cemetery.

Postmaster Harry McCall said he expects the new NRA three cent stamps will be on sale at the Washington post office in about a week. The postmaster has ordered 50 000 stamps to start and will order more if needed. These will be the regular three cent stamps for customers asking for that denomination.

Officers Named for Drum Corps Renewed Activity Planned
Leon Beatty's drum and bugle corps plans renewed activity after officers were elected at Thursday's meeting. Martin Whittaker was named commander while Maynard Brown is vice commander and A K Palmer serves as secretary and treasurer. County Schools Receive $735.03 in State Funds
