Secretary A. R. Corey of the Iowa State Fair association arranged for the Washington Municipal band to perform on the plaza at the state fair on August 30. The 38 players will tour, with concerts broadcast, as Washington day aims to boost statewide advertising. Other featured bands include the Argonne Post band of Des Moines and the Karl Kine band of Ft. Dodge, with additional 4H and local groups planned for smaller platforms.

Crawfordsville Youth Injured In Car Wreck Near Iowa City
Verle McElroy 26 of Crawfordsville is hospitalized in Iowa City with a crushed head, leg and other injuries after his car overturned on highway 161 near a spillway while returning from a movie. He may have dozed off. his skull fracture feared then ruled out as he rallied.

Community Considers Replacing Washington National Bank
About fifty to sixty stockholders voted unanimously to form a new bank to replace the Washington National Bank. The plan, endorsed by the U S Treasury, calls for immediate cash release of 50 percent of current deposits to depositors upon organization and the remaining assets to trustees for liquidation. The new bank would start with 50000 capital and 10000 surplus, requiring at least 45000 in new stock subscription by existing stockholders. Depositors’ agreement of 51 percent representing 75 percent of deposits is sought to secure support.

Busy Immunizing for Hog Cholera in Washington County
Washington veterinarians devote much of the week to vaccinating hogs to curb hog cholera spreading through the county and northeastern Iowa. Vaccinated herds appear to escape infection while others are being treated to prevent further spread. West Chester Man Severely Burned in Store Fire
Cornelius Walton a clerk at Hoover and Porter store was badly burned in a gasoline torch incident while repairs were made on a stove. He suffered burns to both arms legs and one side but is not expected to have serious injuries. Homer Porter also sustained arm and hand burns but kept working at the store. The blaze caused some damage to the building though stock remained undamaged.

Barn Fire Destroys Foster Farm Hay Barn
A large hay barn on the George Foster farm four miles northeast of town burned Sunday morning, with contents destroyed. The fire started in the loft and spread, but the house and adjacent shed were saved with help from neighbors and a Washington fire truck. No livestock was confirmed lost. insured by Washington County Farmers' Mutual, and the fire was still smoldering the next day.

Brighton Boy Wins National Contest With Handcrafted Coach
Richard Peiffer of Brighton received a $65 gold award from W A Fisher president of Fisher Bodies Corp for his miniature Napoleonic coach entered in a national contest. He spent 1500 hours on the model, a 900 part, entirely handmade piece carved wheels and all, painted from a Fisher blue print. Man Bound Over On Concealed Weapons Charge

Schneider to the grand jury on a concealed weapons charge after Officer Blaine Holmes found a loaded revolver in Schneider’s possession during a sobriety arrest of Schneider and Carl Ward. Reverend Frank Galloway Delivers Sermon in Postville

Mrs. Anderson, 89, Dies at Davenport Home
Mrs. Dan Anderson, aged almost 89, died at 7 30 Monday at the Davenport home of her son Charles. The body was taken to L A Jones funeral home and the funeral held Wednesday at 3 pm conducted by Dr F W Eastwood. Interment at Elm Grove cemetery. Born Sarah Benny Todd August 31 1844 in Indiana she came to Washington county in a covered wagon as a child and lived there most of her life. She married Daniel Anderson December 28 1871. he died June 14 1904. Surviving are three sons John of Ainsworth Frank of Washington and Charles B of Davenport eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She belonged to the Ainsworth Methodist church.
