Body of Soldier From Bayfield County To Arrive Oct 6
The War Department notified the Ottman family that the body of Merton Ottman aged 24 will reach this city on October 6 and be sent to Ellsworth for burial. Ottman served in the Black Hawk division after enlisting in 1918 and died in France from a shell fragment while on outpost duty during the Argonne forest drive. He is survived by his parents, three brothers, and three sisters.

Boasts of Big Corn Crop on Washburn Bayfield Road
Ole Hagen, farmer near the Irish farm, reports an outstanding corn crop grown from Wisconsin No. 7 and Minnesota No. 13. He cut corn for his silo, needing just under three acres to fill a 12 by 29 foot silo before the ensilage cutter broke after the first day. The stalks stood eight to ten feet high with well filled ears and thoroughly ripened kernels.

Aug F Hoffmann displayed a 24,289 pound cheese at the Syracuse Fair after returning from New York. The massive cheese, made in Lowville by H A Rees, required 255,036 pounds of milk from 10,200 cows and was shared with Hoffmann’s friends during the display period.
