Acre Cleared For Farmer Under Bayfield Campaign
Mike Ciske, a Seventeen Mile Post area farmer west of Washburn, wins an acre of stumps cleared at no cost through a Bayfield County land clearing drive organized by A I Lien. Dodge Car Turns Turtle After Leaving Road at Long Trestle
A Dodge touring car owned by G. Collins of Missouri left the road near Long Trestle while traveling from the city to Ashland. Four occupants were thrown from the vehicle but escaped serious injury. The car, badly damaged, had to be towed. top fender and wheels were wrecked. Authorities note a sharp curve and fog may have caused the mishap.

Steamer DeWitt unloads nitrate cargo at Commercial Dock
The Steamer DeWitt Dunbar with 2500 tons of nitrate of soda arrived and began unloading at the Commercial Dock this week. This marks the third soda cargo received by the duPont company. The chemical is used to make acid for high explosives.

Washburn Schools Open Under New Superintendent
Washburn schools opened Monday with classrooms arranged and subjects assigned as City Superintendent Wilkins began his tenure after being elected by the school board last week. He met teachers Saturday at Walker High, with vacancies filled locally and more hires expected soon. Attendance is unusually large and buildings, especially the high school, are crowded.

Bosley End Long Contract Ends at DuPont Plant
Bosley Brothers finished tearing down the DuPont wooden wartime buildings and shipping the lumber to Chicago where it will be sold as used material. The work employed 25 to 40 men last season before layoff and the Washburn office closed as A Bosley left for Chicago.
