Ashland citizens raise four thousand dollars to fund the Fish Creek head bridge project. George Wilkinson holds the contract for the seven thousand dollar work and will begin after funds are secured. The town to pay three thousand dollars with the county bearing the proportional balance and the project must finish in ninety days.
The Washburn city council weighs options to end reliance on a public service firm by building municipal power, buying an existing plant, or negotiating a new contract. The goal is to cut lighting costs by more than half and relieve taxpayers of high charges.
The Milwaukee Free Press offers a free 28 by 36 inch wall chart with world maps, US maps, Alaska and territory maps, presidential portraits, and global statistics when subscribing four months for 25 cents per month. Wraps a $1 value chart as incentive.

Irene Ritan the two year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Peter Ritan died Monday afternoon from severe burns suffered when her clothing caught fire at a Sunday bonfire Her mother also sustained serious burns while helping to extinguish the flames A boy helper received minor burns Doctors Mertens and Lampson treated the case and the funeral was held Wednesday afternoon
The North Wisconsin Farmers Association calls a semi annual meeting in Superior at the Commercial Club room on Sept 20 at 11 am. Reports cover six months of business and officers will be elected for the next six months. Reduced rates from Ashland Bayfield Douglas and Iron counties are offered. Addresses on agricultural work will be given. By order of David Dobie president H S Fairall secretary.
Bids will be received at the city clerk office in Washburn until Sept 16 1905 at 6 pm for cement curbs on the south side of Bayfield street from 1st Ave East to 1st Ave West and on the north side of 3rd street from Washington Ave to 3rd Ave West. Notable authors include Adams Archer Bright Cambridge Colby Crieghton Dewey Emerton Fournier Gardiner Green Hart Hume Kendall Longmann Macaulay Medley Munroe Aman Ploetz Seebdohn Semple Standwood Rhodes Thwaites Wakeman with subjects ranging from medieval Europe to early American history and world civilizations.
A powder works at Fairchance Pennsylvania exploded last week causing about thirty deaths. Ten buildings at the site were blown up and the blast shattered windows for miles. In Uniontown seven miles away many windows were broken. B. L. Simmons from Superior visited Friday for business.
The Washburn and Northwestern Railroad completes hauling the Bigelow timber for Hines Lumber Company after nineteen years. Barney Hughes estimates nearly one billion feet moved into Washburn since the start, much of which has been stored at the Hines mill. With operations ending, timber access to Washburn will vanish and the logging railroad is being dismantled for reuse elsewhere.
Mr Herbert Brown and Miss Ethel Hull wed yesterday at the bride’s home with Reverend Weiss officiating. They plan to reside in the west. Delia Britton and Earl McCray married last Saturday in Withee, the groom working in Owen Wisconsin, couple to live there. John Jones and Florence Viola Whits sought urgent marriage permission from County Judge Irish and were wed by court commissioner N M Oscar after witnesses Bessie Robinson and Sheriff Conlin.
At Chippewa Falls last week the Apostle Island Park Association purchased Oak Island, 1400 acres, 14 miles from Bayfield, for 10000 capital stock. W W Flynn of Chetek is president, N E Carver vice president, E C Gotham secretary, J W Welan treasurer. The group aims to use the island for sheep and possibly summer tourism if conditions allow.
An effort to sell five thousand dollars of creamery stock has half subscribed. The deal appears likely to go through this time.
