Bayfield County School Officers Hold Very Successful Convention

About 80 of 132 eligible Bayfield county school officers attended the annual convention at the Court House Monday. County Superintendent Miss Jessie N. Smith organized the event with talks by A A Thompson and local officials on the ideal school, general laws, transportation, and teacher training. Community singing and photo sessions concluded a highly valued program drawing broad interest.

Wisconsin Conservation Commission Fish Hatchery Appeal Orbit

Charles F Wiehe of Chicago seeks 30000 damages against the Wisconsin Conservation Commission for alleged unlawful interference with his private fish hatchery on Springbrook headwaters in Bayfield County. Prohibition Raid Nets 27 Moonshine Arrests in North Woods

Wisconsin prohibition officials and four deputy commissioners raided the northern woods, arresting 27 suspects in Bayfield and Ashland counties. They found moonshine stills including a hidden underground hut on Madeline Island and a high pine tree still, as raids continue to sweep sparsely settled areas. Mrs. John Fraser of 832 West Bayfield Street sent in samples from her raspberry bushes. The fruit on the stem ranged from fresh flowers to ripe berries in various stages of development. The fall bearing berries show no frost damage and appear healthy.

Kenfield Lamoreaux box and crating plant back to capacity

The Kenfield Lamoreaux company resumed normal operations at their box and crating factory, hiring additional workers. After a summer shutdown, the plant started up at capacity last Monday and began full operation Tuesday morning, with about two hundred men employed and expectations to continue through winter.

County Committee Calls Meeting to Save Road

Washburn High school defeated Northland Academy 34 to 7 after leading 18–0 at quarter one and 34–7 by the end of the third. Welton and Geisert starred for Washburn with multiple touchdowns while Northland scored late in the third after a completed pass.

Municipal Judge George A. Calder, president of the Bayfield County Red Cross, will again supervise the annual drive in Bayfield County during early November and is currently arranging the program.

The Bayfield County Teachers Association holds its monthly meeting at the Court House on Saturday October 29. The program includes roll call Current Events Tall Educational Seat Work by Miss Pearl Blanding a Fourth Grade Reading Class by the Bolenius System led by Miss Smith. Wells Driller Reports Fast Bayfield County Artesian Wells

Walter Gustafson of Diamond Well Drilling Co reports completing two artesian wells in Bayfield county near Herbster on the Cam mic and Plaatts farms. The Cam mic well reaches 73 feet with about 123 barrels daily and the Plaatts well 1388 deep with around 100 barrels daily. He says both farms increased in value by 1000 due to the wells and plans to add a second machine next season to handle more work.

Reverend Waters to Leave Local Congregational Church

The Congregational church in this city will lose Pastor George Waters who has accepted a call to lead the church at Mellen. Members regret his departure but wish him well in his new field. He will remain until November 30.
