Veteran Publisher Currie Bell Dies After Illness in Bayfield
Currie G. Bell a veteran Northern Wisconsin newspaper publisher and long time editor of the Bayfield County Press died at his Bayfield home after weeks of illness. He founded the Bayfield County Press in 1873 and later passed the plant to his son Donald C. Bell. He served as Receiver of Public Moneys for the Bayfield Land Office under President Garfield and was a Bayfield leader in publishing and local affairs.

Comptroller of the Currency reports gains in deposits across 623 mutual savings banks mainly in New England and the Eastern States. By June 30 1921 deposits reached 5 575 181 00 with 9 619 260 depositors up from 5 186 485 000 and 9 445 327 a year earlier. Average deposit rose from 549 14 to 479 59 reflecting overall growth despite economic strain.

Secretary Wallace of the Department of Agriculture compares ear corn priced at twenty cents a bushel to a fair grade of western coal at about ten dollars a ton. He notes corn can be cheaper fuel, especially where corn is cheap, and may reduce hauling costs. In Argentina corn and small grain are burned for energy, and he warns large quantities may be used on western farms this winter if prices stay favorable.
