Port Wing Murder Report Reaches County Officials

Sheriff Happle and District Attorney Alvord left for Port Wing after a telephone report of a murder. Louis Cochenour identified as the victim, with a man named Lilliaston held on suspicion. Washburn officers also planned arrival to aid the investigation.

Brown to Lecture on Tuberculosis in City December 10

Harvey Dee Brown, a top state lecturer for the Anti Tuberculosis Association, will give an evening talk in the city on December 10. The lecture will feature stereoptical views and cover main facts. Further notice will follow. Brown is well known locally. Melvin Ramstead visited from Spooner with family. Gunard Johnson town clerk of Lincoln and John Siebert were in the city Tuesday, with Siebert serving on the county board for the ailing chairman Mattson.

City urged to sell old library to Lamoreaux

At the last council meeting O A Lamoreaux offered to buy the old library building used by the Commercial Club for 1000. The city would gain no tax revenue and must lay new cement walks costing over 100. Citizens favor the sale as the building likely has little future municipal use. Lamoreaux suggests offices or remodeling possible for other uses.

The Ashland Naval Reserve travels to face Washburn City next Sunday for a decisive match after both sides previously won once. It likely marks the city team’s final game of the season.

Baptism at Chequamogon Bay by Rev Chatterson

Ned Wieman was baptized Sunday afternoon in Chequamog on bay near the Hines docks by Rev. Chatterson of the Methodist church. The Baptist rite drew curious locals, including those witnessing a first for some. Henry Olson, recently arrived from the west, plans a visit with William Olson and relatives. Sunday School Convention to Meet in Iron River This Week

The second annual Sunday school convention and institute for Bayfield county members will be held in Iron River Friday to Sunday. County Board Sets 1909 Tax Equalization and Levy Plan

The 1909 county board session approved equalization figures totaling 12 321 600 dollars and an increased budget.
