State Road Department Gets War Materials Distribution Nears Completion

Bayfield County Sunday School Rally at Presbyterian Church
The Bayfield County Sunday School Association held its first rally of the year at the Bayfield Presbyterian church on Sunday November 6 at 2 30 P M with representation from five Sunday schools. The program featured singing invocation scripture readings addresses on work with children standards for Sunday schools and the teacher training class, plus presentation of county officers and an offering. Old Resident Mary Arseneau Dies After Long Life
Mary I Arseneau 86 passed away last Friday at her Third Avenue East home after seven weeks illness due to old age. Funeral Monday at St Louis Catholic Church with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Born in Canada July 6 1835 she settled in Washburn nearly 30 years ago and left twelve children sixty four grandchildren forty three great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Survivors include sons Edward Frank James Duncan of this city John of Canada Basil of Superior and daughters Mrs Oliver Bourgeois Mrs E Getty and Mrs Al Searing. Out of town attendees included Mrs Jos Arseneau Superior Silver Arseneau Ashland and others.

Ford truck collision near Bayvern injures two Raarup brothers
The Ford grocery truck owned by Raarup Bros. collided with a farmer driven team near Bayvern last Saturday. Carl and Paul Raarup were thrown from the truck and sustained scratches and bruises. they report no serious injuries. The accident occurred at night without wagon lights, making the team unseen.

City council settles finances by unanimous vote to set the total levy at 4.3 mills for the 1921 22 year including an 8 mill addition for school purposes. Hunting Season Opens Sunday in County Sportsmen Paradise
The county expects thousands of hunters as licenses near three thousand have been sold locally. Many will camp in hunting shacks and head to their woods tomorrow and Saturday. The law remains the same permitting one mature buck deer to be killed.
Motor vehicle deaths rise in United States 1920
The Census Bureau reports 9 103 deaths from motor vehicle accidents in 1920 within the U S death registration area covering 82 percent of the population. The death rate per 100 000 rose four fifths since 1915 while registrations grew 244 4 percent from 1 767 055 to 6 085 150 in the same 25 states. The death rate per 1000 motor vehicles fell from 2 in 1915 to 1 2 in 1920.

Failures Hit High in October, Bradstreets Reports
October failures reached 1,896, up 17 percent from September and the second largest monthly total since March 1915. Insolvencies were nearly four times October 1919. Liabilities totaled 147,722,298, up 31 percent from September. The South saw the biggest jump, with liabilities and failures about one and a half times October 1920. In ten months of 1921 there were 15,535 failures with liabilities of 591,105,741. Nels Hoel of Casson Minn. visited the city briefly to see old friends before returning to work.
