Receiver Sought in Peavey Publishing Company Action

Action filed in Bayfield County Circuit Court by R A Hering to forbid sale or transfer of Peavey Publishing assets, appoint a receiver, and enjoin insurance payouts. Ladies Aid sale and cafeteria lunch at M E church

The Ladies Aid of the M E church plans a sale of useful and fancy articles with a cafeteria lunch at noon and evening in the near future. John Miller a longtime Bayfield County woodman and logging figure died suddenly at the St James hotel in Bayfield last Thursday. His body was held for several days to locate relatives but none could be found and the funeral was held on Monday.

Cargo of Coal On The Way To Northwestern Fuel Company

The Lupus steamer carrying between 6000 and 7000 tons of hard coal for Northwestern Fuel Company is en route up the lakes and should arrive Saturday. It left a lower lake port Tuesday and will supply the Washburn trade with abundant coal from the local dock.

Red Cross Drive to Fund War-Era Relief in Bayfield County

Bayfield County Chapter of the American Red Cross mounts a fundraising drive from November 11 to 25. Harold J. Estabrook chairs the Drive Committee with George A. Calder as secretary, planning visits to every town and city in the county to gather support. The effort follows wartime relief and aims for a lower target in peacetime, with hunting season opening November 21 and licenses selling well.

Mrs Emma Sundstrom Nelson Dies at 53 in Bayfield

Mrs Emma Sundstrom Nelson, formerly of this city, died of heart trouble in Bayfield on Wednesday November 3. She was 53. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at the Swedish church in Bayfield. She was well known in Washburn.

Drowned Huntsman Frank Kenna in Yellow River near Spooner

Frank Kenna a well known traveling salesman for the Patrick company of Duluth, from Ashland, drowned Tuesday morning while duck hunting on Yellow river near Spooner. In his boat with Ashland hunter Lew Anderson, both wore heavy coats and belts. Kenna disappeared as Anderson neared shore. Body recovered after hours. Kenna well known locally and his death a shock to friends.

Miss Fern Scott wins a large majority to become Register of Deeds in Eagle River defeating W Morris. Former Latin and German teacher at the local high school she is a Madison University graduate and has served as Deputy Register of Deeds, with two years in full charge, earning broad public approval.

Richard Hering, visiting relatives in Chippewa Falls, reports many Washburnites employed at the Duluth steel plant and all are doing well. Assemblyman Frank Downs visited his office on Monday, returning after five weeks of illness and saying he is rapidly gaining strength.

A Bayfield County road project for 1921 is outlined with Route 24 work costing about 66000 dollars. Bayfield County bears 22000 dollars of the total, while federal and state funds cover 44000. The eight plus mile reconstruction begins at the east line of section 38 in township 45 north range 7 west. Funding decisions to be set at the county board’s November meeting.

Court convenes Monday in Bayfield county term

The Circuit Court for Bayfield county will convene at the Court House in this city next Monday with Judge Risford presiding. The first day will hear motions and correct the calendar, jurors summoned for the second day, and the lengthy calendar suggests about two weeks to try the cases. The number of criminal cases is small.

Bayfield Family Mourns Loss of Five Year Old Daughter

The five year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Mike Gordon of Bayfield who were well known in Washburn passed away last Thursday. Funeral services were held Saturday morning. The Gordon family extends sympathy to friends in Washburn.
