Wisconsin Railway Rate Commission reports a complete revsion of Washburn water charges effective Nov 1 1921 with overall rate increases near 25 percent. Fire protection cost set at 6900 dollars yearly plus per foot charges and hydrant fees. commercial meter rates raise minimum quarterly to 3 dollars with stepped per thousand gallon charges. unmetered service up 20 percent.
Lieut R W Smith fills the unexpired vacancy after Alfred Froseth resignation. Appointed at a Oct 11 meeting, he qualified Nov and assumes duties, replacing Froseth who joined the U S Revenue Department. Citizens praise his qualifications and courteous service.
Parents bring children to a Congregational Sunday school event Friday at 7:00 P.M. Admission is 15 cents for kids and 10 cents for others. The text notes a scarlet fever case at Ole Larson’s home and lists local movements and a lost fur coat reward.
Washburn High School beat Hurley 20 to 13 in a tightly contested game. Soshea scored on a 50 yard run and added two touchdowns while Geisert kicked two conversions as Washburn led 7 0, 7 6 at half and sealed the win with a late third quarter TD by Soshea and a fourth quarter score by Loshea.

Breeders of Wisconsin unanimously donate the entire winnings totaling 500 dollars to the Wisconsin Holstein Breeders Association. They praise the association for organizing the 32 prize Holsteins that wowed at St Paul and earned an International reputation for Wisconsin Holsteins and owners. The note questions member support and urges paid up membership as an investment in the dairy heritage.
The Bayfield county circuit court drawn a jury panel for the November 14 term. Thirty six jurors were selected by commissioners Byron Riply Ivoy River Jessie WN Smithy Washburn and Martin Rogan Cable. The list includes Mrs F E Wieman the first woman to serve on the Bayfield county circuit court and residents from Washburn Iron River Mason Port Wing Cable Drummond Tripp Orienta Clover and other towns. The court convenes November 14 and a large calendar of costs awaits disposition.
The city council held a crowded session led by the city clerk. It adopted a resolution to pay teachers with certificates bearing 6 percent interest. It also accepted several streets for public use and filled vacancies in the Sixth Ward with D A Monroe and Pete Peterson succeeding C P Lysager and A P Johnson.

Geo W Posey acted as host at his home last Thursday evening in honor of Jake Segal. About fifteen people attended a pleasant cards night followed by a fine lunch.
The Red Cross advisory board has been busy the past week investigating and fitting out families affected by illness or children not attending school. They distributed 18 pairs of shoes and 12 coats and sweaters and invite those in need to seek help from Mrs. Wescott, Secretary.
The marriage of Alvin Lowe son of Mrs Hans Lowe and Mina Lamoreaux daughter of Mr and Mrs Jos Lamoreaux was solemnized in Duluth Thursday Oct 27. The couple are popular Washburn residents who plan to make their home here and the Times offers congratulations.
Mr and Mrs A P Fraser hosted about sixty neighborhood youngsters on West Third Street during Halloween night. Marshmallows and popcorn were plentiful as the children enjoyed a memorable evening.
Ed Finnegan of Odanah spent the weekend on business matters and now focuses on farming. He is developing a fine property in Ashland County and is known as a hustler who can handle stump removal with ease.
Bayfield County reports issuing over 1700 deer hunting licenses to date as the November 13 to 22 season looms. County Clerk Yderstad notes 100 trapping applications granted and 42 wolf bounties paid in October.
Funeral services for Lorenzo N. Clausen, who died October 26, were conducted at his daughter Mrs. E N Oistad's home on October 29 at 2 PM. The Masonic lodge led the service with Knight Templars of Ashland as guard of honor. Businesses closed during the hour as a mark of esteem. Interment followed at Woodland cemetery beside his wife.
Armistice Day on November 11 and the Conference on World Reduction of Armaments are noted as key observances. Schools are urged to prepare programs either as school activities or with local patriotic groups to educate children on the day’s significance.
