Washburn Wins in Lake Superior Oratorical and Declamation Contest
The Lake Superior Oratorical and Declamation series final was held in our city Friday night with Washburn High School earning top honors as Phil Sheridan won the oratorical contest. Albert Aune placed second in declamations, while Nell Ferguson of Ashland won first in declamations. Judges included L. H. Mead, Fletcher, and Mce Caskell, with Hooper as association president.

Fatal Accident Claims M A Fraser on Logging Site
M A Fraser died six hours after being injured when a logging train ran into a steam machine near Two Harbors Minnesota. He fell under the car, both legs crushed, and died from shock. He was 41, survived by a wife and five children, with services held in Washburn and burial in Manistee Michigan.

M C Helmer deputy sheriff has submitted his resignation to Sheriff Simpson. He notes the unsolicited January appointment and says the duties conflict with his hardware store manager job.
