Arrest Here in Libel Case Over Hines Lumber Fire
Benjamin F. Runkle of Washburn was arrested at Eau Claire on criminal libel and attempted blackmail charges. He is accused of writing letters to the Edward Hines Lumber Co and to the Lumbermen's Lloyds claiming the Hines mill fire on July 1 1906 was set to collect insurance and seeking money. Runkle was jailed in Eau Claire pending a preliminary hearing after being lured to the city by a supposed insurance adjuster.
