Split Honors In Basketball Wakefield And Washburn

In a double header at the Y gym Washburn and Wakefield high schools split honors. Wakefield girls won 37 to 1 over Washburn girls, while Washburn boys defeated Wakefield 30 to 13. Dode Oscar led Washburn with several baskets as spirits and sportsmanship were praised by organizers and fans.

No Election of Supervisors in Washburn This Spring

Bayfield county voters are told no city election for Supervisors will occur this spring. City Clerk L N Clausen cites a 1917 county resolution and City Attorney Morris supporting three year terms for elected supervisors, with last year’s group to remain in office. A County Judge race features Hartvig P Axelberg versus Alfred M Warden, with Axelberg favored to win based on past performance safeguarding widows and orphans in estate matters.

Creamery Co Organizes Organizers Raise 2200 Start

A meeting of Farmers Cooperative Creamery stockholders elected F A DILREE as president T A Oscar as vice president and Ernest Tetzner as secretary treasurer. Directors include DILREE OSCAR and TETZNER with terms ranging one to three years. About 70 members pledged 280 cows and 222 shares subscribed, initial working capital 2200 dollars. The plan keeps ownership and voting with stockholders and a three year non withdrawal rule. The creamery will remodel the Washburn facility and open soon with the aim of a modern plant by next season.

Tomkins Urges Fair Uniform Assessments In Wisconsin District

Pierce Tomkins, in his first year as assessor of incomes, decries inequality and dishonesty in property assessments across Ashland Bayfield and Iron counties. He calls for a uniform legal valuation, plans a three county meeting, and seeks taxpayer support and education to prevent under valuation burden on new settlers. Concrete roadbed proposed for Washburn city approach

Citizens urge permanent concrete pavement on the road into Washburn from Bayview, proposing a 16 foot wide concrete bed with curb to withstand fifty years or more. They seek city funding via bonds over five to ten years, claiming long term savings and employment as the council considers the plan.

Special April 15 Recall Election For City Assessor

The city will vote April 15 on recalling City Assessor James A. Sheridan. No official opponent filed. voters must write in a candidate other than Sheridan. Taxpayers League seeks a nominee but has not announced a name. Dr. J R Mitchell’s papers were circulated but not filed in time, and the league may back another candidate.

French War Orphans Fund Adopts City Child

Mrs. P Jacobson's subscribed support for a French war orphan continues. The adopted child in France asks if her letter and photograph reached her sponsor and promises to write often, with thanks from the mother and the sponsor. The note reflects ongoing Franco American aid.

Death by Self Inflicted Revolver In Washburn Farm Home

William Bowers 73 residing with son Gus Bowers at Washburn Wisconsin shot himself on a Saturday afternoon while his son and daughter in law were away. He suffered long illness and pain which is believed to have driven the act. Funeral at Hansen Undertaking Parlors and burial in Woodland cemetery. Also a notice of Hartvig P Axelberg seeking re election as County Judge April 1 1919 with thanks for support.

Iron River to Meet Washburn in Saturday Double Header

Iron River High boys and girls teams travel to Washburn for a Saturday double header. Iron River impressed last week when facing the YMCA squad and promises a fast, hard fought game. Admission is 25 or 35 cents.
