L N Judge, longtime Omaha depot operator, left yesterday afternoon for Menomonie Wisconsin to take over a Northwestern line depot. He will be succeeded by W D Shephard of Kingston Ontario.

City Treasurer Finishes 1911 Tax Roll Collection

City Treasurer Nels Lee completed the 1911 tax roll collection on Saturday afternoon. The delinquent roll was turned over to the county treasurer. Lee’s total collection was 41,684.60 with fees bringing the subtotal over 42,000, while the full roll reached 45,713.88.

Wreck In Omaha Yields Severe Damage To Switch Engine

A serious accident occurred yesterday afternoon near the city box factory when an extra freight collided with a stationary switch engine on the curve into town. The brakeman, engineer, and fireman escaped injury by leaping clear. caboose and two cars were reduced to splinters, the switch engine badly damaged and sent to shops for overhaul. The 4:30 passenger train was delayed over an hour as track debris were cleared.

LaFollette Wins North Dakota Primary for National Ticket

North Dakota voters backed Robert M. LaFollette in the first presidential preferential primary, sending eight delegates to the Chicago convention. Roosevelt fought hard but lost in most precincts, Taft’s tally was small, and organizers for all three candidates campaigned vigorously statewide. The result boosts Progressive momentum as other states hold preferential primaries.

Death of Edmond Lee after illness in Ashland and burial here

Edmond Lee aged 35 born in Frederickstad Norway died yesterday at St. Joseph hospital Ashland after seven weeks with typhoid pneumonia. He lived in this city long, worked as a barber, and moved to Ashland eight years ago. Survived by wife, his parents Mr and Mrs Nels Lee, two sisters and a brother. Funeral Monday at St Louis Catholic church, burial in Catholic cemetery.

St Patrick’s Night at St Louis Hall Draws Large Crowd

St Louis Hall hosted a St Patrick’s celebration with supper for about 250 guests and an 8:30 program. Receipts totaled 112 dollars as crowds spilled over Sunday for a children’s show. The Franciscan Sisters and Sister Carmel pupils contributed, with Frank Messner’s comic song Mr Reilly a notable moment. The hall’s limits were noted as insufficient for frequent gatherings, prompting talk of June school exercises moving to the opera house.

The Kenfield Lamoreaux saw mill began 24 hour operation at the start of the week and will continue for some time. Bolts are arriving in good shape and the mill cannot handle all material on the day shift. The adjacent box factory also runs at full capacity with many people employed by the company.

Robbery reported at the home of Ludwig Molinowski on West Pine Street. About $200 in one hundred dollar bills disappeared from a coat pocket hidden in a trunk. Aims to cover theft by burning the coat lining and pocket. Police alerted and efforts continue to locate the money.

Mr. Elliot Celebrates 90th Birthday With Neighbors

Neighbors and friends gathered at the Elliot residence on 4th Street to mark his ninetieth birthday. About seventy callers visited during the day and a large evening assemblage shared light refreshments as Mr. Elliot was gifted a handsome rocker. He remains hale and active, still doing chores and enjoying daily walks while recounting tales from his lumber business days in the Black River Falls district.

The Norwegian Lutheran church in the city marks its 25th year with Sunday sermons by Rev. T. E. Norde of Rice Lake and Rev. J. H. Stenberg of Duluth. Monday features addresses by Norde, Stenberg, and Christiansen with a church basement luncheon.
